It is equipped with rope sheaves to redirect lifting force from crane ropes. The headblock is connected to the spreader via twistlocks or pin connections. Most headblocks integrate functional modules including slewing (rotation), list‑trim‑skew correction for container leveling, hydraulic power unit, electrical cabinet and signal transmission interfaces between crane and spreader.
Mainly fabricated from high‑strength welded steel structure. It bears the full lifting load of containers and spreader self‑weight. The interface dimension (pin layout, quick‑coupler) is brand‑specific; mismatched interface will cause incompatibility between crane and spreader.
Regular inspection for weld seams, sheave wear, connecting pins and locking parts is required during operation, in compliance with lifting equipment safety standards EN 13001.
